When you see this place you crave for exploring it. Having done that you wish to return and forget the day you have shown up there. A gloomy eleven-storeyed abandoned hospital in Khovrino district. Hundreds of people come here from the whole Moscow, thousands have visited this place, many corpses are found every year within the walls of Residence Evil. So many people are missing there, so many cannot still be found in the gloomy rooms, so many have been killed. The building has created many legends and mysteries. It is in disrepute. It has a criminal, one can even say an infernal reputation. The aim of my article is to merge all the facts and fictions existing in e-net concerning this place.
HISTORY
The construction of Khovrino hospital was started in 1981 on the place of a former grave-yard. It was intended for 1300 beds for patients from every corner of the USSR. It was to become one of the best medical establishments of the country. Later the hospital was employed just for the district needs (Khovrino district did not possess any medical office at all). In 1985 the construction was finished under the obscure circumstances. Some medical equipment and furniture had been brought to the hospital till that time and assiduously stolen by locals.
The reasons of aborting the construction may be the following:
1. Lack of funds for the hospital completion and maintenance (the most realistic). 2. The foundation was settled improperly. (The form played a nasty trick). The project was forbidden as the construction might collapse.
Nevertheless the story about great Khovrino hospital did not end with the construction abort. It was never to become a place which helps people save their lives. It became a place where the lives were deprived. They were deprived because of faith, unanswered love, because of an incident and a doom to be missing there.
LOCATION
About the Building
The hospital is around Khovrino station, next to the park. It is easy to get there from Rechnoy Vokzal station. The construction consists of 2 buildings. The main one resembles a star by its form, 6 outhouses joined by 3 passages abut on it.
The main building has 3 roof levels, a huge and dreadful drowned basement which is about 4 floors deep. They say that there is a drowned tunnel between the buildings in which a truck could move freely. But we’ll talk about it later.
The next building was the Department of Ophthalmology. It also had a mortuary and a crematorium.
I think when you have read the title you’ve become interested why “Umbrella”.
Umbrella is a name of a secret laboratory from Resident Evil computer game. The famous movie was shot its plot (Milla Jovovich staring). Indeed, the form of Khovrino hospital is very alike. It is built in a form of the laboratory’s sign which means Biohazard.
Umbrella is not the only name of the building. People also call it Khovrinka, Khovrino Suspended Construction, Nemostor (the most interesting part is coming). Nemostor. The Satanists Sect. After the sudden constructing abort the building was guarded by military people. The object was one of the strategic locations. But they left soon.
THE NEMOSTOR SECT
The building was uninhabited not for a long time. It became occupied by Nemostor, the Satanists Sect. Different sources give different dates of its existence but the date is not important in our case. The main thing is 100% fact about their existence and their activity inside Umbrella. The sect organized its church in the basement where the sunlight could not reach. They made it habitable. One can even found self-made staircases there. The diabolists made a lot of assaults. Curious people who entered that place ended up badly. They were either killed or immolated.
Satanic rites, orgies were held in Umbrella. They even sacrificed locals, children, dogs and homeless people. Their bodies were often burnt in special furnaces. There are still 2 churches with furnaces in undrowned level of the basement. The Satanists also organized the Black Mass. Being conversant with the topic I will explain you the process in short.
THE BLACK MASS
The mass itself is the principal Christian ritual. The Black Mass is a satanic kind of a mass aimed against Christianity. It is a skit of Christian ritual, a profanation of Christian symbols. For instance, they use black candles instead of light, the cross is turned over or the hexagram is used. The adherents also burn mushrooms with narcotic effect instead of incense during the mass. It helps them become intoxicated faster.
The leader starts with reading a satanic sermon during which he praises Satan, reads Christian prayers in a reverse order (which is a sin), curses Christ and the whole religion.
During the sermon the leader feels a state of a forthcoming orgasm. The adherents sing satanic anthems, feel insanity.
When the pulpiter feels orgasm, he defiles the consecrated Host, throws a cross. The adherents rush at it trying to break and defile it. The mass ends with chaotic and violent orgy during which a like-minder’s sex is not taken into account.
All those rituals took place in Umbrella. And it is a well-known fact. Everyone knew it including law enforcement bodies. The dangerous sect’s activity and continuous ritual murders could not be unnoticed.
The Satanists’ apartments with furniture and electricity, inhabited by Nemostor core, were in an underground tunnel between the main and ophthalmologic buildings. It was a meeting place and a domicile for most of the sectarians. During the next assembling the law enforcement officers executed a special operation on the sect liquidation. Special police squad reached the hospital.
Armed forces encircled the sectarians, opened fire and drove them into that tunnel, and then they blew up both exits having intercepted the retreat. The tunnel was drowned, so were the Satanists. Their bodies are still there. The tunnel is drowned, the entrance to it is known to very few people. The person who showed the cops the entrance had disappeared before the operation.
This is the most popular story about Umbrella. One of the most widespread. No one knows for sure the authenticity of this story. But there are two facts: Nemostor did exist and the authorities got rid of it.
To prove the version one needs to explore lower levels. But who would like to do it, even with special equipment? Only lyrics written on walls and memory about the victims remind their existence.
SATANISTS IN UMBRELLA TODAY
Despite the end of their predecessors Satanists still meet in the hospital after the sunset and hold rituals. Their room is on the 5th floor of the main building, it has neither doors, nor windows, they get in pushing the wall.
The liquidation of Nemostor did not end the Umbrella’s story. People still die and become missing there. Bodies can still be found. The local police department has about 1500 claims against the hospital. I have dug up that in 2004 6 bodies were found in Umbrella and 13 during the summer 2006. And it is just for 2 years. If we had access to the police archives, we would find lots of interesting information, but alas.
There are also rumors about ghosts and sounds of crying children in black and deserted passages, but they are just unconfirmed rumors.
AS FOR THE DEAD ANIMALS
A frail old lady lived in the neighboring house. Once she had lost her dog and decide to look for it inside the building. She found a dead dog which hardly resembled her pet. Its legs were tied. She also found some more tied and cut off legs next to the body and went to the police department. Officers organized round ups for several times but did not manage to catch anyone. In a week the lady decided to find the assaults by herself but she fell into trap and had been dying there for several days with broken legs.
Umbrella has many traps like that. It is important to mind your step when you are in. The floor may collapse under your feet. You can also find traps hidden under the metal plates. If you step on one of them you will fall on specially prepared rods. While exploring the building I have also noticed places with vertical rods on the ceiling.
SUICIDE
Suicides also took place in Umbrella. One of the most popular cases is a self-killing of the guy whose memorial you can see coming to the hospital from the park.
The guy whose nick-name was Kray jumped from the 8th floor into a hoistway because of the unanswered love. He was very young. Nowadays there are many flowers, cigarettes and lyrics on the wall. One of them is “Hospital is a wonder land, if you come in, your life will end”. Next to the memorial is a dark room where Kray’s body was found.
“R.I.P.” and “No Entry” can be seen over the entrance.
You can often find people and animals, either died a natural death or killed, lying within painted circles with the very signs of satanic rituals.
PRESENT TIME
After clearing the building from Satanists it became inhabited by everyone and his wife including homeless people, gothes, punks, skinheads, emos, etc.
Everyone was there…
Different sport and military organizations train there.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW TO GET TO UMBRELLA
Pieces of Advice
Whom you should be afraid of:
1. Local gangs. 2. Satanists. 3. Homeless People. 4. Cops and other law enforcement representatives. (be ready to get under arrest, especially if you are not 18) 5. Stray dogs.
What you should have with you:
1. A lamp. 2. A guide who knows the place as you won’t find anything interesting without his/her help.
And something else:
1. Go there by group of 10 people. 2. Mind your step. The floor has dozens of traps. 3. Girls without a company of strong guys are not recommended to get in. You may not come back. 4. Take something for self-defense to be on the safe side, eg. a knife, a mace, a pneumatic gun. Use them/it in the last resort.
As you can see, Umbrella is a small dark dimension which lives according to its laws. You can feel its horror only through visiting it. In general, if you organize your trip properly, you won’t have any problems. Hundreds of people werethere and returned alive and unhurt.
